about e-panchitah
This personal website was created as a means of communication and self-expression. It is an electronic representation of me. Hence, e-panchitah was borne.
The name Pancha is a Salvadoran term of endearment for anyone named Francisca, the diminuitive being Panchita. The name Francisca, meaning free one, originated from an old germanic expression in which a spear called a franca was provided to a new free member of a tribe. From the Franks, through Italy and then Spain, the name Francisca finally arrived in the mesoamerican region after the Spanish invasions.
I was born in Los Angeles, California many moons ago. I fell in love with plants from a very young age and my inquisitive mind eventually led me to the scientific field. I then dedicated my higher educational career to understanding and communicating the value of native California flora. California's rich topographical and climatic diversity is unparalleled and I am fascinated with the ecological, societal, spiritual, and scientific value of our native plants. In addition to being a researcher, I am also a trained educator and science interpreter. Currently I am working as a biology educator at a local university while I continue seeking a field research position.
